Simple Tips To Fix Bad Trends In Web Design
Web design is an extremely complex topic and people go to school for years to learn about web design. In addition, with the Internet continually evolving, information on web design and the trends in web design are updated constantly.
In order to have a successful website, web design knowledge is required and where this article can help as it provides several useful web design tips that you should know.
Trend – Requiring an excessive amount of time to load your website. The larger the files are the longer a user’s load time is going to be. Most users will click away if the page does not start to load within the first few seconds of opening your page.
Web Design Tip #1 – Keep the sizes of your files and images small.
Trend – Using muddy navigation techniques with buttons, links or tasks that error out or take the reader to other websites considered objectionable.
Web Design Tip #2 – Have clear and easily identifiable links, buttons, tools, etc. to navigate with and in prominent locations on every page of your website. Also, add and interlink with your other pages on your website. Your call to action and purchase buttons do not have to be just on your sales page.
Trend – Using the so-called “mystery meat navigation”. This involves the use of unlabeled images or other elements for the website’s navigation. In many cases, the reader has to move their cursor over the buttons to see what they are or what they are to do.
Web Design Tip #3 -Keep your navigation simple and use text links across the top or along the left side of the webpage.
Trend – Not letting visitors back out of an incomplete action. You and your website are forcing them to do something they choose not to do, resulting in them closing out and going elsewhere, never to return.
Web Design Tip #4 – Always give your readers the ability to exit and stop whatever it is they were doing. This could be anything from filling out forms to registering for an email newsletter.
Trend – Web designers believing a pretty website is all that is required to keep readers coming back.
Web Design Tip #6 – Visitors will return to your website repeatedly when you provide content that they feel gives them value, answers their questions and they see the benefits.
Trend – Similar to completing forms, trapping a visitor within a website without the ability to go back or to return to the main page or “home” which forces the reader to close fully out of a website to escape.
Web Design Tip #7 – Every one of your website pages should have a way to go back or to get HOME. This action ensures that when a user navigates deeper into your website, they will always have a way to start over from the page they are on currently.
Web design is important because it can determine whether your website is successful. It is, therefore, critical that you have a good understanding of the trends in web design and this tip information. Always look for ways to learn more about web design as you build or improve your website.
